1. Charming Carouge
In an atmosphere that will remind you of southern Europe, it will feel good to just walk around in a very calm surrounding. You are in Carouge! Separated from Geneva for a long time, under the reign of the Kingdom of Sardinia, Carouge was a place of parties and get-togethers. It’s not surprising that many of its bars and restaurants are, to this day, institutions in our Canton.
Tip: Make a stop at the gelateria « Bella Mia » and try the extra dark chocolate sorbet, you will be thanking us!
2. Geneva’s Little SoHo (according to the Times!)
Contemporary art fan? The Quartier des Bains is waiting for you! With its many galleries, Ethnography Museum (MEG), Modern and Contemporary Art Museum (MAMCO) and the Centre for contemporary art, you are in a culturally rich neighbourhood.
Tip: Several times a year, the „Nuit des Bains“ allows you to walk from gallery to gallery in the evening. The apero in front of the MAMCO is naturally a must!
3. On the riverbanks of the Rhône
Geneva is not only about a lake side, it’s also long river banks where it feels good to just walk, relax and get a tan. Some will go to the pontoon on quai du Seujet, others will walk up to the tip of the Junction, where deck chairs and drinks will be waiting for them. Finally, the braver ones will even dive in.
Tip: the tip of the Junction where the Rhône and the Arve join. The mix of muddy waters from the Arve and crystal clear blue waters from the Rhône mixing together give an incredible spectacle. Don’t hesitate to go on the viaduct of the Junction to see this from higher up.
4. The Old Town
On Geneva’s tallest hill is the Old Town, where Calvin started his Reform. On the top, you will find St Peter’s Cathedral and its typically green tower. Go straight to Bourg-de-Four for drinks on a terrace. Even in winter, hot wine will be fun!
Tip: the « Geneva Street Food Fest » on the Saint Antoine promenade. You can satisfy your foodie appetite whilst listening to live music. The next edition will take place from the 9th to the 11th of June 2017. The Color My Geneva team can’t wait for it to be here!
5. Getting lost in the street of Eaux-Vives
One street away from the lake is Eaux-Vives, with old buildings and noisy streets by day and by night. Pizzerias, shops and bars: there is something for everyone here! The restaurant « Luigia » doesn’t need introducing, but have you tasted their Nutella Chiacchiere ?
Tip: The very first edition of « Un soir aux Eaux-Vives » (an evening in Eaux-Vives) will take place on Thursday 27th April 2017. Open art galleries, food and wine tastings are on the program.
